ImageThe definition and adoption of standards has since the dawn of humanity assisted human beings in interacting with one another. Standards are not just important for social organisms like people, they are vital in regard to information management as well. To a good designer or a developer, adherance to standards is much like law.  If even one person has a bad experience with your site, this can resonate far beyond the loss of just one sale or customer. Furnishing a page to a customer that render's fine in Firefox and IE is dandy and all, but if it doesn't render in Safari, than that page isn't working as intended. Say it renders fine in everything, but doesn't validate? This could mean potential design incompatabilities or be a sign of bloated code; meaning unforseeable and difficult to isolate incidences will come down the road. Incorporating all the web's customer's regardless of how they view the site is an important matter. You should not lose one sale, membership, etc. as a result of lazy programming!
